BIOLOGICAL FILTER MEDIA
The photo to the right shows an enlarged view of a biologial filter media. The open weave allows for water to flow freely while providing an excellent colonization media for beneficial bacteria.

  MECHANICAL FILTER MEDIA
The Mechanical Filter Media, shown on the left, is a much more tightly woven media. Pond debris is trapped in this media. Cleaning this type of filter regularly promotes a cleaner, healthier pond.

FM56LG (Magnification 50x)
FM56LG and FM56SP are our two most popular MECHANICAL Filters. Their relative medium density allows for optimum particulate removal while maintaining an adequate water flow. This translates into high efficiency filtration without having to clean the pad too often.

  FM56JC (Magnification 50x)
FM56JC is our most popular BIOLOGICAL filtration media. It is available in 1.25" and 2.0" thicknesses. The 2.0" material is used exclusively in virtually all US manufactured pond skimmers and waterfall units. The open character of this media allows for high volumes of water to pass through without clogging while providing optimal surface area to facilitate bacterial colonization. The total surface area of this material is 49.6 square foot of material.
EXPANDED SURFACE AREA
FM56TER-ESA is Poly-Flo's newest and most exciting product to date. Utilizing the new TERMINATOR material, which is an extremely sturdy ultra-coarse material using large diameter 500 denier fibers, Poly Flo's proprietary ESA (Expanded Surface Area) process is then applied which increases the total surface area by a whopping 50%! This amazing treatment is accomplished by adding marble dust to the black die, and using aventuri system to apply the latex binder which results in a honeycombed effect that dramatically increases the total surface area. The marble dust increases the surface area by altering the microscopic profile which adds peaks and valleys to the individual fibers, dramatically increasing the surface area. This process also increases bacterial adhesion by providing a surface more conductive to bacterial colonization. The TERMINATOR'S low density weave/high surface area ESA coefficient makes it an ideal material for high flow applications without sacrificing biological filtering capabilities.
